Your Next step

What you can do.

These are the cardinal rules for the aftermath of a sociopath.

1. Look after yourself and your mental wellbeing. Get out and talk to a therapist regularly, this helps you from going crazy. They will tell you that they have seen this hundreds of times and that it is not your fault. You need to remember this.

NB: If you are in a financially difficult situation and can not afford to see a therapist, there are services out there that are free. 

2.  Exercise. This is extremely important. You need the endorphins to keep you from sliding into depression. This can easily happen after a sociopath has come in and turned your life upside down. Do a form of 30 minute exercise each day. I recommend YOGA, this helps your body as well as your mind.
Make your body strong so that your mind can be strong.

NB: If you are financially struggling, jogging is free and swimming in the ocean is also free. Focus on some core strength exercises too. You can go to YouTube and find an array of exercise videos from yoga to abs work outs.

3. Learn to Love yourself again. You have been emotionally tortured for long enough and its easy to think that you are unloveable or that you no longer trust anyone to think that you could ever love again. You can. You are just in a state of transition and shock. Do things that you love, get back into things that used to make you happy. 
Go to your favorite brunch spot once a week and take books that you always wanted to read. Invest in yourself from now on and put yourself first.

4. "Don't try to understand the crazy". You may be in the process of preparing for legal proceedings at this point, trying to recover things that were taken from you. You may be finding out things that completely undermine your entire relationship in the first place and you will feel more and more despondent and negative. You will find out an completely new world that you had not known about and this can be very disturbing. It will keep you thinking and wondering how this happened for so long without you knowing.
Try not to understand how or why they did it. Just know that they operate and are unable to feel real emotions (apart from pain), that is why they are able to do so without a conscience. They are different animals or robots if that makes it easier to understand. They operate and you are just another pawn in the game.

5. Remove emotion. Its easy to get caught up and overwhelmed with the psychotic behavior. If you eliminate emotions and stick to the facts, you will get further in your goals.

6. Remove toxic people from your life. You can either turn your back on people temporarily who are not giving you support or just keep them out of your life altogether. Things will improve 10 fold. You life will be a lot less complicated.
